What Surprised Me Most About Da Nang

Central Vietnam coastal scenery

Introduction

Da Nang is often described as a transit city between Hoi An and Hue. That framing undersells what the city actually offers — a modern coastal rhythm with deep historical layers.

Cultural context

The beachfront is real and worth visiting, but the surprise was how quickly neighborhoods away from the water revealed local life — markets, family restaurants, and evening gatherings along the Han River.

Founder observations

Cities labeled as 'stopovers' often reward longer stays. Da Nang taught me to question itinerary assumptions built from other travelers' summaries.
